You can claim a tax rebate by completing a P87 HMRC Form Online. This form can either be accessed in two ways:
1 By creating or logging into your HMRC online account HERE
2 By completing the P87 HMRC Form online HERE, printing it and posting it to HMRC to the address included at the end of the form (Pay As You Earn and Self Assessment, HM Revenue and Customs, BX9 1AS)
Who Is Eligible to Claim a Tax Rebate?
You may be eligible to claim tax relief if you have to use your own money to buy things for your job for which you have not been reimbursed for by your employer. These expenses include:
- Uniforms & work clothing;
- Business Mileage;
- Travel & overnight expenses;
- Professional subscriptions;
- Working at home.
It is important to note that you cannot claim for any costs that your employer has reimbursed you for or where your employers offers you an alternative but you choose not to take it up. For example if your employer has an office but you choose to work from home, then in this circumstance you would not be able to make a claim for a tax rebate from HMRC on a P87 form.
Who Should Complete a Form P87?
The HMRC Form P87 is to be used for tax rebate claims up to £2,500. If your claim exceeds this figure you need to register with HMRC, which you can do HERE, in order to complete your self assessment tax return online.
If you have claimed a Tax Rebate successfully before you may not need to complete a P87 Form online, so phone HMRC on 0300 200 3300 to discuss your rebate. Make sure you have your national insurance number ready to confirm your identity as part of this call.
